P90X Pull Up Bar Review!

by John on March 8, 2010

So you are thinking about buying P90X or already have it and you are wondering about how the pull ups work in the program. Well I’m here to tell you P90X is full of pull ups. You will  find yourself twice a week killing your back as you do pull ups like a mad man. But, take a second and don’t feel overwhelmed. Many people have questions when it comes to the pull up bar and programs, here are just a few.

  • What do I do if I can’t do a pull up?
  • What if I have a injury and can’t do the movements?
  • What type of pull up bar do I have to get?
  • Do I even have to use a pull up bar?

These and other question referring to pull bars are answered in this short video that I have put together to better inform people who are new to or thinking about getting P90X.

When I purchased P90X I already had one of the Iron Gym pullup bars, however it is very similar to the P90X brand pullup bar. I was able to do chinups fine at first but could barely do any wide grip pullups without using the modified method from the DVD's (The chair) To anyone considering P90X and wondering about the pullup bar, if you ask me its absolutely necessary! Pullups are a very important part of this workout routine so get the pullup bar and if possible get the P90X brand pullup bar, or at least the Iron Gym extreme so that you have multiple hand grips.

I got the Gold's Gym pullup bar. Cost 20 bux. It is very similar to the Beachbody bar. It sets in the door frame the same way and has all the grips that I need to do the workouts. I got two so my wife and I can do pullups at the same time.

Is the pull bar safe to you on any door frame? I live in an apartment complex. And my other concern is a person’s weight.

Sheila I use it and I weight 200lbs and it works great! We also use it in an apartment and it doesn’t hurt the door frame at all. I use the P90X pull up bar from Team Beachbody. I’m not to sure about the cheaper ones you can buy at Walmart.
